This course is a three-credit unit course for undergraduate students in Criminology. It shall be conducted online; it is an online course. The materials have been developed to extensively cover every important issue in criminology, both theoretical and practical. It aims to introduce the students to the meaning of crime, criminology and criminal law; Acquainting the students with patterns and trends of crime; Expose them to issues in crime statistics and measurement of crimes; Introducing them on the methods in the study of crime; Expose them to the various theories of criminology; Exposing them to the general nature, extent and causes of violent crime; Introducing them to issues surrounding public order crime; Acquainting them with the processes, components and working of the criminal justice system; and introducing them to the history, functions and procedure of policing and law enforcement.
